Join The Squad
If you are interested in volunteering with the Little Silver EMS, please read the information below and complete the form. After your form is submitted, a line officer will contact you with further information regarding the advancement of your application process.
Once the application is accepted, new members will have the opportunity to complete the Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician training program offered at several locations around Monmouth County. All training is free of charge to squad members. All members are also encouraged to participate in various continuing education programs and training drills. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help the community.
CPR/Defibrillation
All members receive basic training in CPR and using the electronic defibrillator.
Emergency Medical Responder
This is the basic level of training which transfers enough knowledge to allow confidence in lifting and moving the patient as well as supporting many of the functions of basic patient care. This level of training is provided internally by the squad instructors. The First Responder works with members who possess a more specialized level of training, EMT.
Emergency Medical Technician
An EMT is one trained by the State of New Jersey in designated hospitals throughout the area. This training qualifies the member to manage any level of emergency patient care. The EMT is trained in all specialized equipment and techniques allowed by the State of New Jersey.
A Member is expected to answer emergency calls in the borough of Little Silver. Night crews have been established which evenly divide the weeknights between members so that a member only has to answer late night calls one night during the week. A member is expected to keep their training current and attend as many squad drills as possible. The squad also has one meeting a month. It is no secret that the squad consumes personal time. Members have to find it within themselves to balance this with the satisfaction of helping others in time of need.
