Little Silver EMS Holds Dedication for New Ambulance, New Captain's vehicle, New Boat
On the evening of Monday April 10, 2012 the Little Silver
Emergency Medical Services, Squad 23-21, dedicated their newest piece of life
saving equipment, Marine 23, The
craft is a 16’ flat bottom connector boat with 40 hp Mercury engine, built by
Rescue 1. In conjunction
with the Marine Unit of Sea Bright the craft will be used to provide search and
rescue as well as dive team support services on the Shrewsbury River south of
the Sea Bright-Rumson Bridge. Advantages of the craft include a low draft flat
bottom for use in shallow water and a wide beam providing a large stable
platform to operate from when connected to an identical craft. In
addition to standard EMS equipment the craft is fitted with cold water suits,
area lighting and Stoke’s basket. There are currently10 EMT’s and 1stResponders qualified to operate the Unit. The craft, on a trailer, is housed at the Little Silver Boat Ramp where it can be placed into service within moments. Use of the craft is not restricted to the immediate Shrewsbury River in that EMS vehicles are capable of towing the unit to remote locations if needed.

Little Silver Emergency Medical Services (LSEMS) is a 100% volunteer organization that responds to all the medical and traumatic emergencies, as well as fire department calls, in the borough of Little Silver 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. LSEMS also provides a stand-by crew for community events such as football games at RBR, races such as the Little Silver 5k and George Sheehan Run, graduations at Markham Place School and Red Bank Regional High School, the Red Bank Fireworks and other large community events where there is potential for an injury or medical emergency.
LSEMS maintains two ambulances, a Chevy Tahoe Captain’s vehicle and a rescue boat. We currently have about 30 active members who respond to approximately 600 calls a year.
Little Silver EMS was founded in 1954 by a handful of caring volunteers from the Little Silver Fire Company. Since its inception, LSEMS has remained entirely staffed by volunteers. The Ambulances, supplies and equipment are purchased by tax dollars from the Little Silver Borough and by generous donations from the community.
